I reach retirement age in October 2015 and want to convert my pension pot into an annuity. I was talking to an adviser at MyPensionExpert who said that annuity income can be improved if you smoke, drink or have any medical issues. All 3 apply to me but I was wondering if there is any check to see that it is true? Or dohey sply assume you will peg out that much earlier?

If they all already apply to you, does it matter to you ?

Depends on your medical condition, there is a good chance they will ask for a report from your Doctor. If it is just that you smoke and drink, the enhancement will not be that high they will probably take your word for it. The more serious/life threatening the medical condition the higher the enhancement. Just be honest on all the forms you fill in.
