Hi, I am having difficulty in obtaining a car insurance policy in the UK
I live in Spain,Spanish residency, I have a 'Holiday Home' in the UK (non-residential static caravan) I am trying to get insurance for a car I will leave in the UK for use when visiting my grandchildren (2 under2) about 8 times a year ,2 weeks at a time. As I am not resident in the UK many companies have refused cover. The only way I have been offered a policy is a 'short stay' one and they want to charge £150 a week!!!
Any ABers know of any company that can do a straight forward annual policy.
Any guidance much appreciated P

Have you thought of giving your car to your son (or daughter) and paying for the insurance which would be in their name with you as a named driver?

Hi,hc4361, thanks for the reply, unfortunately neither my son or dil have driving licences. It's also not practical for me to 'drive over' 2 days(12 hours) drive to ferry (santander), 24 hour ferryIt's only 8 hours by plane door to door
I meant for you to leave the car in the UK with one of your children but if they don't have a driving licence it's not going to work.

You need to speak to an insurance broker.
Could you not possibly get a Spanish insurance policy?

Another option - re-register the car as Spanish and insure it from Spain.

Another option - you son gets a provisional driving license and then do as hc4361 suggests.
Try a specialist broker, such as Stuart Collins & Co. Phone +44 (0)1792 655562, 1000-1400 & 1500-1800 (CET+1).

Can't be registered in Spain and remain in UK for more than 6 months at a time.

Once again thank you all for your replies,
vulcan42, the aa site took me back to the 'short term ' site I tried that wanted £150 a week, but thanks for the pointer.
Buenchico, I tried your suggested broker and he has come up with a policy that is acceptable both for cover and price. Fully comp. for under £550 a year. Thank you very much for your help
Take care all, P
