Hi Guys,
I'm desperate for some advice here because I am staggered at how much my insurance renewal is this year.
I have a polo 55 plate.....so hardly anything exciting. In 2008 I was burglared at my car was stolen, it was recovered smashed up (was a different car) and I was given a courtesy car while it was fixed, this was then hit by driver one evening whilst it was parked up. No details were left, but it was a fairly bad crash, apparently the driver that hit my car had fallen asleep at the wheel and taken out 4 parked cars. - not insured!!!
So now, i have been quoted £2,200 to insure my car - and this is third party only, is there anything I can do to appeal this??

Sorry if this is a personal question, but how old are you, madalaine? Young drivers pay high premiums. Insurers usually go back 5 years for claims and unfortunately 2008 is still in the 5-year period.
How much was your premium last year?
Is this the renewal price from your current insurer? If so try go compare or money supermarket.
Third party only is sometimes more expensive than fully comp...no I don't know why either.
Find a local insurance brokers, such as Swinton.

Go and sit down with a consultant and discuss it with him or her.

You may be pleasantly surprised what they can do.
Good idea to try a broker.
dont get disheartened - I [but it could have been the broker ] didnt find S much good - and when I said they were nt much good they shrugged.

thanks I hope that was all clear before. I had thought of going to see Swinton I'll ring them tomorrow. I'm 35!!!! So certainly not a young driver or a new one. i've been driving for yonks! I feel like going outside and givng the car a huge kicking!!!
Not exactly the same circumstances but child one passed his test recently and had his eye on a wee car. He got a quote from a local broker of £3,300ish.
I went online and got a quote for fully comprehensive and myself + Mrs 9401 as named drivers for £970ish with a well known and reputable company.
Have a good shop around and good luck.
Go on line and compare, there are hundreds of companies wanting your business
The two instances you comment about in 2008 were claims to your insurance company but it seems that neither of them were your fault. Additionally you say that the driver who damaged the courtesy car was uninsured. If he was identified then he would be deemed liable.

However, in both the instances you .mention the Motor Insurance Bureau would have helped you. They pay out (after investigation) where the driver who caused the damage was uninsured.

As suggested by other replies here, shop around - you will definitely beat £2,200 as you have a number of years' driving experience.

Good luck

Have you owned and insured a car continuously since this episode in 2008?
