The AA are one of the best for delegated breakdown cover in Europe. Can be economical to take out a one-year mainland Europe policy regardless of how long your trip is planned.

You will still need a "Green Card" from your Insurance Company for insurance cover in Europe.

Don't forget your Headlight Beam Adapters, Warning Triangle, Reflective Jackets, First Aid kit, and Breathalyser Kit. (DYOR an check the rules before you go).
I've not been with Green Flag for a while but when I was with them they did not extend cover to vehicles over 10 years old outside the UK. That is when I switched to the AA. Twice they have recovered me across borders.

The standard recovery you get with your insurance is not worth anything unless you only do a few miles here and a few miles there, never going too far from home. Otherwise you need to take out one of the more comprehensive packages with AA, RAC or Green Flag that includes towing to anywhere (not just the nearest garage) and home start if you rely heavily on your vehicle to earn a living.
Calculate the effective yearly cover rate from ‘Price x 365 / Number of Days Cover’ then decide whether you would be willing to pay such a price for breakdown cover – or that it would be a better option to stand the risk yourself.
