Car Insurance for 2 Drivers

Trying to find car insurance with two drivers is a bit of a nightmare! Will be using my boyfriends car as of next month-ish and will be the main driver but not the registered keeper or owner (boyfriend will be). This was fine when I put it into Compare the Market but when I rang my insurer to see what they could offer they seemed confused about the situation and kept trying to put me through to different people so have hung up! Would this be an issue with most insurers; does the main driver also have to be the registered keeper and legal owner?

No. It doesn't matter who the car is registered to. As long as the main driver is insured as the main driver.

That's what I thought; maybe it's just my insurers being strange then!
Is the car already insured under your boyfriend's name? If so you can just be an added driver for the month through his insurance. It never costs much.
Sounds like it. My OH is the registered keeper of our car and I'm the main driver.

Yeah but it's up for renewal and as I will be the main driver thought we best change it; lowest price I got was £550 with £500 excess.
I am the owner of my car but not the registered keeper. I am the main driver and the insurance is in my name. Like you I had a bit of a problem (Saga wouldn't insure me anymore) so I went to a local broker and got insured no problem.

Thanks Ladybirder; had no problem getting a few quotes on Compare the Market; was just my own insurers! Hopefully be able to find one a bit cheaper than that though!
What type of car? And how old are you and BF?

Citroen C3 ('04) Both 25, he hs 4 years no claims and I have 3. I did have an accident but it wasn't my fault and the other person's insurer paid up no problems.
