Do not attempt to dismantle or open a gas strut as they contain gas under very high pressure and if tampered with can project large pieces of metal at very high speed. I speak from experience as I had a very narrow escape from an exploding gas strut that was supposed to have been depressurised
If it has a built in gas strut then you cannot repair it because the gas will have leaked away. If it has a replaceable gas strut you may be able to find a new one.
