That's not how an SLR works - you have to look through the viewfinder, which gives you the exact image through the lens. The Canon EOS is not unique in that respect - that's the way they all work.

OK, it's a fair cop. Mine's a 400D and doesn't do that - unless anyone can tell me to the contrary?

Thanks buildersmate for your cheery response. However it is possible as we had it, pressed goodness knows what and lost it again !!! We agree that we've bought a "proper" camera !!!
