Is there any way you can mount a 50inch Tv bracket and TV on a middle room wall. Which means the wall is only plasterboard/honeycomb/plasterboard 6cms thick..?

try looking if there a timber joist
my nephew just bought a 55" samsung led and the way thats hung is buy a steel rope like a picture would hang its far better than all the holes you have to drill for a bracket, guess this will be the way they all go soon,
it's going to make quite a difference what sort of tv it is.

a 50inch LED (or LCD) TV will weight about 20-25kg

A 50inch plasma will weigh about 50-60Kg.
One solution would be to glue a piece of ply onto the plasterboard using contact adhesive ,j make the ply just big enough to take the brackets .
it works I have done it.
^ So you're ultimately relying on glue?
snags the glue will never ever seperate from the plasterboard , believe me.
When you finally get it fixed to the wall, don't forget to inform your household contents insurance company.

A friend of mines TV fell off the wall and his insurance wouldn't pay out because they hadn't been informed it was on the wall.
I was thinking that snags, I wouldn't want to rely on just glue to hold potentially £1000+ of TV on the wall.
the plasterboard would have to break first and that is not going to happen either, Plasterboard is stronger than you would imagine. Also if a spar could be found screw into this also.
Jack_knoff - do you mean that you use the plywood as a stiffener for the plasterboard and screw through both layers, ie. plywood and plasterboard.........but ultimately into the cavity of the partition wall ?
Surely no matter how good the adhesive is, everything is still just hanging off the base plasterboard... or have I missed something...
well obviously i know more about solutions of this nature than you or snags chuckfickens (i had to concentrate there) great name.
snags my 42 inch has been hanging on my wall using this method for the last 18months or so.
I've read lots of stories about people using multiple pasterboard fixings to secure it straight to the plaster board with success, it's just that I personally would not trust plaster board to support the weight of a 50inch TV on it's own (especially if it's a plasma, mine weighs well over 50kg, hence why mine is not wall mounted)

I'd want to at least securely fix it to the batons behind the wall, I'd rather be 150% sure it's going to stay attached to the wall than hear a crash in the middle of the night.
well it is all about having confidence in what you are doing chuckfickens isn't it.
I would let my nan swing of the telly shouting.............. me Jane you Tarzan ..............and i would be confident the ply would not separate from the plasterboard.
stupid blonde question.................if you hang your TV on the wall how do you hide your cables?
hi lilacben plasterboard is a reasonably strong material to support from, depending on the metal/wood/dot&dab that is holding it up and this is where you could do with finding some supports under it, possibly by drilling some very small test holes to locate them or rely on what jack knoff has suggested.
but the likelihood of finding two supports at the correct spacing is remote.
also i would,nt hesitate to cut out a section of plasterboard and install the supports in the correct spacing and then reboard, given the value of what you,re supporting as against £5 of plasterboard and a £7 bag of multifinish, but then some people might not like to go to that extent.
when tiling skimmed plasterboard is reckoned to support 20 kg per metre square inc. adhesive and grout, if the plasterboard is correctly fixed to its subtrate or support.however thats a distributed load of fairly small, thin tiles and your TV is on a pair of brackets on more of two point loads, i assume.for peace of mind i would want to make certain its securely supported
sorry for such a long reply, hope it helps
Apart from the expense, bear in mind that if the TV did fall off, it could easily kill a small child below it ...

Wow!! many thanks for so many replies, very helpful and my husband is gratefull. He is now thinking of the lines of putting bolts through the wall and attach a plywood plate onto the other side. We have a built in wardrobe that backs onto that wall so we will not be able to see anything on our bedroom wall. (as you can gather we live in a bungalow). that way, he says he can hide the wires ect through the wall on the other side. Would this work do you think.?
