Tree sap removal

How do you remove sticky pine sap, picked up from some cut logs, from hands and clothing. Soap has little effect

Turpentine works well...

WD 40

I used to be a tree surgeon and I always got the sap off with Faiy Liquid, and it came out of my clothing with a normal hot wash in washing machine.
