How it Works

hoovers

why oh why has nobody invented a silent hoover yet? I hate that noise! That constant drone. Its torture, and destorys the very fabric of suburban living when all you can hear in the afternoon is a hidieous noise. why are hoovers so loud? Why has no one invented a way to suppress the noise?

amazing isnt it? they can silence a pistol, but heavens forbid they silence a hoover!!!

Vacuum cleaners are horrendously noisy - I'd certainly buy a quiet vacuum.

You can indeed silence a pistol:
......, a silencer will silence a pistol caliber shot completely. A silenced pistol makes no sound at all except for the mechanical noise of the hammer falling and the action cycling.

I suppose its just like having a requirement for a jet engine. Much of the power would be lost in trying to silence it.

In fact there are silencers available. Bose earphones have a noise cancelling device fitted which takes the incoming noise and produces a sound wave of the opposite polarity adds it to the incoming noise and so cancels the offending nuisance. I believe there is a small deteriation in the music heard though.
