Delete letter from Microsoft Word??

I use Windows XP and I can't find out how to get rid letters I have written and saved on Word. I can go to My Documents and delete from there, but it does not really get rid of it in Word (it just says that file cannot be opened). If anyone can understand what I mean, I'd be so pleased with advice? Many Thanks

Can you not just go into word and click open and then delete what you want? Surely though if it's been deleted from my docs it should be deleted from there anyway.

Do you mean in the history, when you click "file"?

If it's your "history" list when you select "File" that you're concerned about - you can't pick and choose which items to get rid of but you can delete the current list and then start again

Select Tools, Options, General uncheck the "Recently Used Files" entry and then click OK. Reselect Tools, Options, General and check the box again. You will have deleted the old list and started a new one. You can also choose how many items to retain in the list.

Thankyou both for your answers. It was the History list that I was wondering about. I know what to do now, dundurn. Thanks for your help.

if you right-click on an individual item you should get a Delete option
