Is space a problem? I mean you could go the whole hog.
On my PC I have Altec Lansings with Subwoofer and they're boomin marvellous.

I have bought the "Klipsch" Speaker dock from Amazon. They are quite pricey at about £99 but they are fantastic and sooo much better than the really expensive Bose sound system. I have got rid of my own hifi as these are so good.
Def get these if you can afford them.

compared to a hi fi amplifier and a set of speakers, most those trendy 'docking' station things will be blown out of the water. I wouldn't waste money on them. check your local richer sounds, or, if a tight budget, cash converters.

There are speakers for your iPod which I don't know the name of that can be bought at a store such as Radioshack or Walmart. It not big and not tiny either. My friend has it and she says it sounds just great. I plan on buying iHome (if thats what its called) for my iPod. Other than that you might want to do some research.
