Why do we sneeze? Why do we never seem to sneeze when we are asleep?

hi... I can't speak for anyone else, but I know for sure that I've sneezed during sleep as it used to drive my boyfriend crazy - I'd sneeze twenty times in a row, sometimes when lying down, but more often I'd be sitting bolt upright, but not awake. At first it freaked him out, but after a while it just irritated the hell outta him! He'd have to shake me quite hard to get me to wake up (then blow my nose), otherwise I'd go on sneezing repeatedly. I didn't notice at all, or remember the next day of course!

my 14 month old daughter sneezes in her sleep all the time!!
