I would just like to say a big Thank You for all those who gave me advice, after my bleeding duodenal ulcer and stay in hospital last week, especially our resident doctor, Sqad..x.....Having lots of things on your list, especially broth, and weak tea......lots from your list actually and suggestions from other lovely AB'ers x.
Was in a bad when rushed by ambulance and vomited up a substantial amount of black blood, had a blood transfusion, and endoscopic procedure to fix ulcer.
Opened bowells on Thursday while in hospital....Stools were black, like tar.....Dr said that is normal as I had quite a bit of old blood from the original bleed to clear through system...Told could take up to 7 days to fully get rid of......Happy to say stools are just about got normal now....I can continue my recuperation and hopefully get stronger, got 3 more days of medication including antibiotics.....8 tablets and capsules also Lactalose solution.....Follow up with GP next week.

Thanks again and it was greatly appreciated :-) xx

Thanks Fluffpot..... great to see you on.
Hope you're fit, fine and funky, my lovely :-) xx

No problem, Sqad.....wanted to let you know. x

The Doctors in hospital mentioned that I, perhaps, didn't develop the ulcer due to my love of spicy and hot foods, but they were giving me drugs to kill the H pylori bug....

Sqad, Can you please give me your view as to how, if I got it, I caught it?
Yogi...I am afraid that you are asking the wrong person here as my knowledge of H,pylori is very scanty, but i am sure that you will be flooded with links quite quickly.
One almost certainly has H.pylori from childhood and that may be due to overcrowding or living in an insanitary environment...not so in your case. Another method is that one can contract H pylori from living with someone, spouse, partner who already is infected with H pylori...it is transmitted by some means. This organism is extremely common, probably 70% of the population of the world are infected and in the majority of cases, causes no problems. Why doe it suddenly play up? No idea, Stress? Acid in the stomach? But that is my lot Yogi.
ah Yogi..hope you are back to normal soon !! xx
Mr.Sam had it for years and years without knowing. Probably before they discovered what is was. After a stong dose of antibiotics he got rid of it. That was years and years ago. Bad memories for him, how he suffered poor babe.
mum had it as a result of acid reflux and H hernia ..

Hi Anne

Yes, thank you..... much better and so happy to be home.....Doctors and nurses in my hospital were great.....no complaints..... It's just cant really get an undisturbed sleep as your woken up either by patients in pain needing attention or nurses wanting to take BP readings and heart/pulse too..... changing water or antibiotic drips as well, in the early hours.

Hi gnessy

Thanks sweetie x
Remember...!..rest. It's not unheard of to wake a sleeping patient to give them sleeping tablets. ( its true)
Question Author
Really?....I wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks for advice, Anne...appreciated.....I will rest x
You've been through a terrible experience Yogi. Take it easy, let yourself heal properly. My husband's foreman at work had the same as you a few months ago. When he came back to work ( engineering) he felt weak and dizzy and felt like passing out. Probably due to all the blood he lost previously. So, don't rush to go back to work too soon. All the best to you.x

Thanks very much Patsy for your post

Great advice and I am not back on my radio station till fully fit so I reckon near two weeks at least.
Gigging sometimes includes shifting equipment and music boxes into function, so quite a lot of strength needed.....DJ friends are covering any work I have in the next two weeks.....I can get cover fot more if needed.
So as you say wont rush back .....once I can swim 6 lengths I will probably be fit.....no jogging or gym for a while.
I do get tired in the day and side effects from medication too.

Thanks again Patsy....take care xx

Sqad,

Hope you see this.......On last 2days of Antibiotics etc.....On Amoxicillin 500 my capsules, take 2 in morning, 2 in evening......Clarithromycin 500 mg.....One in morning and evening.....Omeprazole 20mg capsules.. 2 morning and evening.......And Lactulose liquid 3.35 g in 5ml twice a day.....

Trying to drink iced water and fruit juices but feel bloated, and appetite gone, quite a bit of wind.... I'm still eating a bit, as I know I should. Had good dinner last night. The good news is that my stools have gone to normal brown colour, no black tar or blackness in water, but only 1 stool yesterday and one today. Do you think the medication is affecting my system and making Lactulose redundant at the moment? Feeling lethargic and not my usual self.

Your, or anyone else's opinion will be greatly appreciated. x
Try drinking hot / warm water instead of iced. If you don't feel hungry, don't eat for the sake of it. The body heals faster and more adeptly in a fasting state.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Yogi...that antibiotic / omeprazole regime is excellent and the standard treatment.
Good days/bad days par for the course after your bleed and your lethargy is probably because your iron levels in your blood have not completely returned to normal.
You are doing fine.
Off to my Club now.

Thanks NoMercy......Just fed up not being able to do anything, as usually quite active....got to be patient and heal properly.
Will try warm water, as you mention......Do you think a Hot Chocolate will be alright?
On Sqad's recommendation I'm trying weak tea..... that's quite nice.

Lovely to see you on, NoM....Been a long time since we had a chat and I hope everything is what you want it to be, in your life.....and you're well :-) xx
