You need your media to be "CD-R" which allows you to "Burn" music on to the CD from your PC or Mac.

A bog standard CDR or (CD+r) with do. I wouldn't suggest buying CD+RW (Re-writable CD's) as some bog standard CD players have trouble reading them.

Are you going to play the music on your computer or a domestic CD player?

If the former you can write MP3 files and get hundreds of tracks on one disc, giving you upto about 12 hours of music on a disc.

If the latter you MAY have to write "audio" discs, which can only hold about 80 minutes of music. Some domestic CD players will cope with MP3 files, but not all.

Your CD writing software will ask you which type of CD you wish to create ie, data or audio.

Sorry its for my funeral (some way off I hope) but apparently if you are having a burial you will need to supply the CD with your selected songs if not in a normal hymn book.

Make sure the funeral facilities can play downloaded tracks. The crematorium where my Mum had her funeral could only play shop-bought CDs - their player couldn`t play downloaded stuff.

The safest thing is to create an audio CD in that case. Don't use a re-writable disc and, as 237SJ suggests, check that the funeral place can play the CD.

Thanks for the help so far. Now for the next stage. I have a CD-RXG AUDIO and on my computer I have downloaded from Amazon, the 2 songs I wish to be played, so how do I burn them onto the disc. I just feel I would like the funeral to go in a way I would like not sombre but a celebration of a life. I really love now when say a footballer dies instead of the old minutes silence they now have aopplause, much nicer.

record onto a USB stick at the same time ...then it can easily be converted to whichever medium can be played..

You can't. Once you have written a CD-R, that's it.

Incidentally, you didn't need an "audio" disc, which are sometimes called "music" discs. They are designed (required) for domestic CD players which can also write discs (I have one). They were more common many years ago when PCs weren't so common. The CDs will work perfectly well on your computer but they are just more expensive than ordinary CDs. When I said in my earlier post that you should write an audio CD I was talking about the format of the disc, not the type of disc.

I commend your foresight and consideration for those that will have to carry out your wishes. Do you have a particular undertaker in mind? If so, most of them have a huge collection of music to draw from and will make up a CD for you, even at very short notice. If you do make your own, do store it carefully with the titles, artist, length of recording and the order in which to play. Record two and store elsewhere. Make a copy on a memory/flash drive stick as well if you like, but I don't recommend them for long term storage. My opinion only.

once you have made your CD keep it in a dark place as exposure to sunlight can erase writeable discs.
