Do your eyes really give away so much that it's worth wearing dark glasses?

I don't know, but I guess so. I think that people who are very good at detecting liars by bodylanguage look at the eyes (and other things of course). But I'm not sure. I know that you can tell if a smile is false by looking at the wrinkles by the eyes though.

I think that another reason for wearing them is they are annoying. I like to play a bit of poker and I think I would be annoyed by not being able to see the other players eyes, just like I would be annoyed by people wearing sun glasses inside when there's no reason for it.

The only people who can effectively lie are trained actors and hardened criminals. Working in sales like I do, I can tell within 15 seconds of meeting someone whether they will buy from me or not, and that the excuse they give for not buying is false.

For example, window canvassers are so persistent beacuse the excuse they here more than any other is "not interested".

If double-glazing was free, who wouldn't have it done?

I think Derren Brown would be able to see through a lie even if you had dark glasses on! He's scary. If you're that concerned play online! ;-)

Another point - wouldn't prof poker players be part of the group who are able to lie really well? they sort of make their living on being able to lie and detect other people lying.

The eyes are part of "what lets you know". People who are lying cannot maintain eye contact, rather they occasionally glance and their eyes dart around. If someone is genuinely interested in a product I offer them their pupils will visibly expand, and the reverse if not.

Sven Goran Eriksson never looks at the camera when interviewed post-match, the reason being he is not in the least bit interested in addressing the watching fans.

Some police officers are able to remain completely expressionless when interviewing suspects. This is extremely difficult to do, and requires training.

Just one more thought, Marge - When playing poker, it's a bad idea to wear glasses of any sort, because the player opposite you can see your cards reflected in them.

I'm a poker player Marge and I can assure you that many people give away their emotions through their eyes, my game is Texas hold em and if someone is dealt, say, two aces and the flop gives them the other two giving them four of a kind, I've seen people shake so badly they could barely put their bet on.

The eyes are the first thing to give you away, but you have to be a seasoned player to be able to recognise it in anyone who is also a good player.
