What gives the most satisfaction?

My niece and myself didnt speak to each other from 2002 until just before xmas 2013 after a major fallout. Making up again was (to borrow an American term) awesome. Eleven years of animosity, over in seconds and much hugging and crying etc and much forgiveness on both sides. After some of the previous cr>p Id been through, this was the best thing that had happened in a long time.

On the other hand, there are certain people, who, if their lives went tits up, I actually think I would be delighted to hear about. I'm not wishing ill on people but cant help thinking that if certain peoples lives went pear shaped, I would crack a beer or two in celebration.

As you have learned, it depends on the circs.
revenge or forgiveness more satisfying? I don't know because I don't do either.
Meh... I can't be arsed with either. I go with apathy. If you've peeved me off enough that I have decided I don't want you in my life then I am unlikely to forgive you but I don't waste energy on revenge - that's too negative for me. I leave you to it.
Speaking as one who is very capable of both, I've found that in my older years, forgiveness is better for a good nights kip.

That being said, there's a lot I wouldn't forgive...
I must admit I tend to be a bit of an Old Testament Type of guy.You know the sort of thing,an eye for an eye and all that sort of thing.
Craving revenge eats you up inside.
Managing to forgive gives you peace of mind.
Like Prudie and CD, I don't do either. Nice people are welcome in my life - The rest aren't worth thinking about.

Mmm, apathy. Never thought about a 'middle ground.' Really would like to be apathetic regards certain situations. Would make life a lot easier.

OG, //Craving revenge eats you up inside.//
Already stated I dont wish ill on people.
Question Author
Have heard it said that 'to know all, is to forgive all'
ie, if you had that (certain) persons experience, genes, upbringing etc, then you would do exactly the same as the person that had wronged you.
//if you had that (certain) persons experience, genes, upbringing etc, then you would do exactly the same as the person that had wronged you. //

In the case of revenge, just as well we don't all share those factors. Revenge is futile.

Lost me there naomi, or perhaps I wasnt making myself clear, The point I was making was that if we all understood each others actions there wouldnt be any need for 'revenge' as we would all understand each others actions..
Agreed, revenge is futile but does bring some satisfaction in a perverse kind of way. I defy anyone to say otherwise.
'Perverse' being the operative word. 'Perverse' is not good.
Question Author
LOL naomi, I think we have a disagreement with semantics here with certain words.
I'm sure the BBC would like to get their revenge on you, naillit! There'd be a tangible reward for them, in that.

Stick me on your 'life, tits up' list, please.
Question Author
Hypno, youre on my 'tits up' list even as we speak. Not so sure of your BBC remark though. Are you casting asperssations on my refusial to purchase a tv lisence?
Hmmmm, could be-ee!

And it's Hypo; the n is after the g.

Hypo "under"
gnosis "knowledge"

As in "I don't know enough".

By the way, have you considered how the products you buy can afford to pay millions for TV advertising? You've no idea how much you're paying for those channels. At least with the Beeb it's a known amount. Once they scrap the licence fee, they'll just be more advertising for us all to pay for.

Know when you've got it good and don't fix what isn't broken. ;-)
Question Author
My apologies hypo for misspelling ur name.
As for the BBC, no, I will not buy a license. If others want to give to the establishment that enslaves them (look up bread and circuses ) then that is not my doing.
I had a previous encounter with TV lisencing where they even persued me to prison where it was obvious I could not pay (there imaginary) fines as I was locked up. Ive stated beforfe. and I'll state it again, there is no way that you have to have a tv lisense,
Both have their points for and against. I'm more of a "ah, who cares" type person and go with the apathy brigade. Life's too short to bear grudges.
Your assertions may be right, naillit but I will have to do my own research, into the unenforcibility of fines or the need to have a licence at all.

All I know is there are an awful lot of jobs out there where lack of a criminal record is quite high up the requirements lists. Your suggestion comes across as a ploy, to make thousands of other people follow suit, only to make themselves equally unemployable as yourself, in order to level the playing field. Crafty!

Given they're letting murderers out after 8 years and rapists after 4 years, I think imprisonment for non-payment of fines is just plain disproportionate. Bailiff action (removal of TV receiver unit/s) should be punishment enough.

On the other hand, if we all stopped paying and employers changed their hiring requirements to match, we could have lowest-common-denominator programmes on all channels and I could be freed, at long last, from the tyranny of the fascinating box in the corner.
