Gas Cooker - Oven Suddenly Stopped Working!

Last night our gas cooker oven failed to ignite which made me notice that the clock had also gone off. I tried to ignite the bottom oven directly but no gas came through though the top oven and hob would light directly.

Is it simply a fault on the electrics, I will check the fuse in the plug, though why the failure for gas to come through?

Any gas cooker engineers out there to assist before I call in BG,

Thanks
Simon

I'm no gas engineer, but I'm pretty darn sure there will be a fail-safe device (valve) that requires an electrical supply to it, or it closes and shuts the gas off to the device. So no electricity, no ignition possible.

Gas cooker engineers DESIGN things; gas technicians SERVICE them.

A much-abused word is engineer.

To confirm what BM has said...my gas cooker requires an electricity supply to function. No electricity...no gas cooking at all!
I guess the timeclock only controls the bottom oven and as the clocks not working we could conclude that the power supply to the gas valve is dead. The fault may lie with the timeclock.

Folk,

Thanks for your replies and I was sorry to upset buildersmate. Changed fuse in plug , works well though need a replacement glass cover for the light as that had cracked and caused the bulb to blow.

We had a similar problem and have lit it with a match for years now. Worth a try if you can cope without automatic lighting.
