As you know re my kitchen tops having glue on them - I have just bought glue removal and you have to leave it on for several hours or overnight. If it is not a success I will buy a new countertop.

Two questions: Can I claim off my contents insurance

Should I let my visitor know what has happened or leave it.

thanks

A. leave it over night and see how it goes.
B. Maybe claim accidental damage.
C. If you do claim from your insurance then I would tell her.

Hopefully the glue removal stuff will work, jj.
Tell her and let her know the stress she is putting you through.

Well I am a bit sceptical Tony whether it will be a success as it does say NOT to use on hardened plastic but don't know what mine is. I would call it high gloss laminate.
you'd have to look at the terms of the insurance; but I would have thought so.

Tell your visitor? I would.
Before using it try a patch test to save yourself a lot of grief.
Question Author
Eccles - have already done it so will have to wait until later as I said before you have to leave it for several hours or preferably overnight.
sorry must have missed you mentioning the patch test.
Question Author
sorry Eccles - miscommunication here. No I didn't do the patch test - just went ahead and done the actual stain.
I don't think jj has done a patch test, Eccles.
There you go!

If glue doesn't come off it is ruined anyway.

Tilly we are playing a lot of snap. LOL
I don't know how much a new top will cost but think about it before you make an insurance claim as your premiums with certainly rise.
Snap!

I realise that Jeza and not only the buying of the new top but cost of my joiner as well.
Can't you just live with it?
Don't leave it over night .to long for that sorta thing .Would test if working now ,could raise the possibility of making it worse and could affect claim if any .
Jenny plus you will have to pay excess I would first try some boiling water to see if it break bond and try scraping very carefully so not to scratch worktop

Weecalf - it does say several hours or overnight but will try and wipe it clean about 11pm.

Sherrard - the top was the most expensive of the kitchen. I will have to live with it if it turns out too expensive to replace.
Question Author
Thanks TonyV - my neighbour tried the boiling water last night.
