Just returned home after dropping youngest daughter off at Manchester airport en route for the States to start a new life in teaching.

Good luck H.

Thank goodness for Skype!

That must have been hard BT.
Aw BT, how long will she be away ?.
Skype is the most marvellous invention in the world...watch out for the time difference though, daughter will not appreciate being skyped at what might be an unearthly hour for her.
Chin up!
I hope she has a fantastic time. Hard for you though xx
She'll be fine. Don't worry, BT. That's what being a parent is all about. Letting them go to do their thing..

Thank you, she's on a 5 year contract, but she's a single girl so, who knows what will happen.

She'll be home for Christmas and we're already looking at flights for Easter.
You will realise soon that it's not that far....Everton to Cornwall by road, even allowing for airports...

I can understand though; in part, it's the cultural differences.
Hiya Blue, I did exactly the same as you four years ago, same Airport. It was bonfire night the evening I came away from the airport & fireworks were going off in the sky, so memorable. My son is living in Perth & making such a success of his life. I wish the same for your daughter! The hardest thing is that first initial seeing the back of them walk through the part you can't go with them. She'll be back for Christmas as my son will be x
very difficult,,,,,but just how proud are you ?
You will miss her, but Skype is great for keeping in touch.
Skype kept us sane when I was in the Falklands.... brilliant toy

In the summer DT, it could be a return trip to the States!

Thank you all for your support, it's her life and she must follow her dream, I wholeheartedly support her, and I know it's only a seven hour flight away.

Just felt such a plonker blubbering at the airport when she left. Anyway, she's now arrived in the US and enjoying a beer or two with others who are following their dream.
So time for you to enjoy a beer or a glass of wine, BT, and wish her well and love tonight. It's not an easy time, believe me - done that several times as to jobs. Does she have accommodation sorted out?
my father did the same as you did tonight many years ago....and I survived :)
Sorry, DTC, but that is a really daft question. She would hardly go and start roaming the streets looking for somewhere to stay. She's an intelligent young woman.
Whatever you do, don't watch long lost family!
tilly - it is not daft and that's a bit insensitive - of course she is not walking the street - my question being whether she is an hotel or whether they have a flat or service flat for her sorted out, the last two being much more preferable, as I well know from experience of 10 international moves.
Skype will keep you together. It must be hard to say goodbye to the youngest but the chances of a good life can't be missed. I hope she makes a success of it.x

DT, I understand your comment. Yes, she and 2 other girls already have an apartment sorted. Thanks for asking.
Might be lip wobbling, Blue.....but you and Mrs Blue have brought her to this exciting time.... nice job well done!....x
