Collecting Mail From Old Address

Saw our ex neighbour today. They moved out about 4 weeks ago.

He said they have been trying to get some mail sent to their old address from the current occupants. He said there was a few items they had by they front door but the people are refusing to give it to him (not sure why, he didn't go into details)

Is there anything he can do?

Set up a redirection service with the Post Office, they will have to pay though.

That happened to me some years ago, and the local postmaster went round and collected my mail for me and then forwarded it to me at my new home. I don't think they can refuse to give you the mail, unless of course they have thrown it away. I got in touch with Royal Mail. Hope this helps.

Without knowing why the current occupants are refusing, it is difficult to say.

If he has any idea of where the mail is from (ie something that was expected) he should contact the senders and explain.

He could send a solicitors letter - the letters are his property, the least the new people should do is return them to sender, marked Gone Away, not just bin them.

I suspect they can't do anything if he hasn't set up a redirection service (which he should now, if the neighbours are going to be like this) - unless you have a matey regular postman, who's willing to ask for you to take the mail away.

redirection service - post office £25 for three months I think.

The big thing about the Royal Mail, is that they stress about delivering to the right address and not the person inside.

All sorts of things ( laws and regulations } about interfering with mmail and so on, and none of us have ever managed to enforce it.

For me I cant stop people sending me mail in someone else's name
but that of course is another story
