If you're in a very strong signal area they may work fine on an internal aerial, otherwise you'll need at least a "proper" wideband aerial in the loft, or preferably an outside one.

Whether an indoor aerial is suitable depends very much on the strength and quality of the signal in your location. It's usually a case of "suck it and see".

I have a loft aerial (DIY job) which is excellent but am in a very strong signal area.

My daughter has a freeview tv in her bedroom, we use a amplified indoor aerial and it works a treat!

I get acceptable Freeview with indoor + booster in West Edinburgh. It really depends on your own situation.
