Fire escape window

I recently installed a window , which was also meant to act as an emergency fire exit . Building control won't sign off the works because the window supplied was a "easy-clean" ie it rotates to a half way position for easy cleaning .
Obviously the window will have to be altered as egress is now difficult , today I've looked at the hinge arrangement and was wondering if it would be possible to alter this thus causing less damage to plaster , stonework etc ?
Or is there another quick fix ?

ps noticed that Mr B was around !

Marty ....... any chance of posting a link to the type of window, or maybe give me the make and model?

Is this a sliding sash type, with spiral balance mechanism instead of weights?

Its 1000 long x 550 wide hung on the long ( vertical ) side .
The opening mechanism is a lot of criss crossed metal bars , know what I mean ?
A door type hinge won't work owing to the frame holding the glass "overlaps" the outer frame as a weather seal .
Shall I try to find a similar one online ?
Cheers marty

very similar to this , its in timber btw Media URL: http://www.bizrice.com/upload/20120109/upvc_casement_windows_high_quality_.jpg
Description:
Oh, I see.............. reflex hinges......... where the casement slides towards the centre. They do make these in a "means of escape" variety, but that's no use to you unless you replace it.

There is a particular type of reflex friction hinge that gives a full opening for means of escape. Easy job to swap hinges.

oops posts crossed !
just the job :)

did I ever tell you about my first wife ?

her husband was livid ....
Yes, marty. A straight replacement. If the screw holes don't line up, just drill some more.
Check out my Screwfix link. They have loads of them in different sizes.

Good luck with that, and thanks.
Come back if you need more :o)
Lol ;o)
