Making my own cd Digipak/Sleeves

I am not the most technically minded person but would like to make my own cd Digipak from scratch or one of those gatefold cardboard cd sleeves without any plastic packaging that you can get. So I need to make/buy the blank card sleeve and I want to be able to design my own graphic and print it on said blank packaging front/back and inside. Will this be a nightmare or can I do this at home with the right tools?

I have been googling but seem to only be able to find companies who would print them for you in major bulk.

What sort of programme would I need to use to create the graphics (they are undecided at the moment)? I would like them to look as polished and professional as possible. Would I need to take my created graphic to a print shop or would a printer handle the card for the sleeve/digipak?

In your opinion would it be cheaper to to get someone to do them for me or would I be able to do this myself fairly cheaply?

I would only need to make in total about 20/25 units at most - not for retail etc... they are for a project I am trying.

Well...here's a little origami approach:

And in Publisher, if you look at the 'labels' option you'll find one for CD/ dvd labels, and you could use the plain square one to design your own label to glue on (it looks like just one when you design it but is two persheet when you print it)

Googling 'short run cd sleeve printing' throws up results but their minimum quantities seem to be 50 for around £80.

If that is too much and as you ideally only want half this quantity I guess the individually hand made and folded 'laser print, glue and card' route is the way to go
