Picture quality on Sky+

When viewing TV via my Sky+ box I've noticed that on pressing the "TV" button on the Sky remote the television picture on my Hitachi lcd TV becomes brighter and the colours are more vivid.
Could this be anything to do with using a scart lead as opposed to HDMI or is there another reason known to anyone.
The set has a built in Freeview tuner but I've no antenna so can't compare quality of sources.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Ta.
