Electricity power

I am to be without electricity today (from 8am until night) and am trying to work out what I can actually do today that does not require electricity.

If I use my laptop (MacBook) will the battery drain be affected by my playing my music (itunes) on it as well as using word? Or does it not work that way?

Anybody?
Wolfie, my gut instinct is yes, it would be affected as you are doing 2 things at once on it.

I think the techies are still in bed. :-)

Thanks - I find the more that I think about it the more confused that I get.

Are you always up this early? I don't 'do' mornings usually - except when Frankie has been doing his starving cat routine.

Even the cat's water bowl works on electricity - wonder if I will survive!

:-)
The parts of a laptop that use the most power are the screen and the hard-disk.
You can't avoid using the screen (though you can lengthen usable time by decreasing the brightness of it) and multiplexing tasks will force the hard-drive on more often.
It's surprising what you, well, not you personally take for granted isn't it? When they were doing water mains work some years back and said they were turning the water off between 8 and 6, no waching machine to do it's thinig whilst I was out at work was a bit of a nuisance.

Only up this early when the young Alba is at work :-)
Wolf,
Do you see that big wooden thing in the corner? It's called a door!
You can open it and find a whole new world outside(a bit like a Scottish The Lion,The Witch and the Wardrobe)
Once in this new world there are lots of things you can do to waste some time: window shop, walk in the park, buy a nice pie for lunch etc.
You'll be amazed by the creatures that inhabit this world.
And then when you get back home again your leccy will be back on....simples.

On the laptop question: I agree with BM. Try turning the brightness down on the screen.

A

Outside is not safe. And I couldn't go out as I have no sitter for the little ones.

Speak later?

Thanks all - powering down until later :-)
Grab yourself a book.
Everything extra you do will consume power. That said you know how long battery radios go before the battery needs replacing (or car alarms for that matter). It seems that generating sound doesn't take a lot of power. But that said why add extra load to a laptop that will probably last only 10 minutes anyway ? Turn the portable radio on instead.
PS you can read that when your power comes back on this evening :-D

Thank you all.

My power is back on and I am happy. I hear that a long time ago there was no electricity - how did people cope?
With no modern tech and so less stress.
