One nail in wood

Was sent a homemade puzzle with nail down through three holes in wood, each piece of which extends from narrow piece of wood.  The wood is all one piece and there are five extensions out from it through which the nail goes through the middle three pieces.  Get the nail out without cutting or breaking.  I was told to reverse the way it was made but I can't figure out how it was made.  Any help?

Possibly the nail was cut into three then centre piece inserted followed by ends.  If the hole is tight enough then you won't be able to move the pieces individually making it seem in one piece, maybe....

Set fire to the wood, and then fish the nail out of the embers.

Ok, I was joking.  I think the queation loses a little in translation - diagram is needed!
