In need of a secure sound proofed shed

Have a lot of music equipment (ie. drum kit, guitars, Apple Mac, sequencers etc.) that have no place indoors and have to go outside so we're needing a shed. For obvious reasons the shed must be damp proof because of the electrical equipment and sound proof as not to annoy the neighbours.

Can anyone suggest the best plan of action, structure, materials etc. and maybe even suggest places in the UK where these materials can be obtained from?

Do any companies supply these types of sheds or any that can be adapted while being built? ZebUK (Tue 11:31 20/Dec/05)

Why not rent a small indistrial unit or lock-up? Guaranteed weatherproofing, security, and probably no neighbours at night when you practice.

Andy's probably right.

I put up a shed this year, about 8' x 12 ' I dug the foundations and put down the concrete plinth myself and assembled it myself and had an electrician friend do the electrics and it still came to a grand for the plinth, shed electrics and that's going to be too small for you I'd think.

You're going to find sound proofing a shed nearly impossible and then you've got to get planning permission.

There are companies (probably advertising in Home & Garden type magazines) which construct purpose-built garages from concrete blocks. I wonder whether something like this might suit you. They would be pretty sound-proof and damp proof and I imagine they would be more secure than a shed if you're aiming to store valuable musical equipment in it. Made sure you have secure locking facilities on it and adequate contents insurance cover too !
