Bought 6 of those garden lanterns from Homebase last summer. If anyon'e familiar with them, they were the 5 x brighter ones. However, only 2 are still working.....is it just a case of changing the rechargable batteries inside them ? or are they usually this pants ?

Thanks in advance

Why not swap the batteries between one that works and one that doesn't

if the non working one starts working and the previously working one stops working you'll know it's just the batteries
I have found that the solar panels go milky looking and less efficient :-(
I get them in every winter and turn off the batteries...This gives them a chance to dry out as they may be slightly damp (and won't usually work.) ..In the spring I reassemble and check them out,and I usually charge the batteries at the same time, but you don't have to of course...
Charge the batteries in a separate charger to kick start them.
Being out in all weathers means the internal connections can become corroded enough to give poor battery contact. Open them up and give the contacts a clean.
just throw them in the bin and get wired lighting that you can turn on and off,
