I've had a go at growing Habañeros/Scotch bonnets - was a great success, managed to turn them into some pretty serious 'rocket fuel' hot sauces too !
Quite looking forward to having a go at growing the (apparently) hottest ones of all "Red Savina."

I'm a fan, and have been growing habaneros for years on my kitchen windowsill. But I find they're quite hot enough, and I don't see the point of going for anything hotter. If I need more heat, I simply add more peppers.
By the way, the Savina used to be the hottest, but it's been outdone by the Japanese variety 'Naga Jolokia', also known as the 'Ghost Pepper'.
Whiffey (rip) would be very proud of you both.
Are they easy to grow?
Very easy, Ummmm. I grow them on the kitchen windowsill with good light but not direct sunlight, and plenty of water, (n.b. never let them dry out). A doddle.
Thanks....I might give it a go :-)
just looked at your convo and have been thinking of growing chillies i am inspired!!!!! do i have to sow them at certain times of year?
I am interested too. Do you grow them from seeds from inside an actual chili or do you have to buy 'proper' seeds?

babybop - as far as I know yes, around late March early Apr generally.
Scotman - I bought some seeds from an online company BUT I also bought a few Scotch Bonnets from the local market, disected the fattest one and planted the seeds - they grew!
They're pretty easy to grow if you follow the basic instructions and it's fantastically rewarding when you get a good harvest.

Thanks for the info Heathfield, I've just ordered a packet of (actually) 'Bhut' Jolokia seeds. I assume 'Naga' are similar/the same thing.

Hi LL - it took about 4/5 months from germination to having a full on fruit-bearing plant, I started them off in a heated propagator then moved them to the greenhouse when they were about 4" tall..

They probably can as long as they get plenty of sunlight.

Yes! My Bhut Joloka seeds have arrived - shame I have to wait a month before I can plant them.
