How can you get rid if foxes in a garden. Its a bit overgrown at the back, and I am sure they are coming from somewhere down there. I have heard that a soak of diesel should keep them away, is this true? cheers

Diesel?  Hardly environmentally friendly!
It may keep the foxes at bay, but what about all the garden friendly wildlife it would kill off?
The best way to deter them is to erect a fence at least 3 feet high.
A shotgun is very handy for killing foxes.

Nice one archbishop!

If the overgrown part is on you land, clear as much as possible to remove any possible breeding sites, but unfortunately there is not much else you can do apart from making sure there is no food available in the garden....

I'm with Ray the DJ. Not only is it not environmentally friendly, but you will poison your soil and a passing smoker...well that's self explanatory! Remove the food and shelter sources and you remove the pest. Clearing the area so there is no shelter or food sources will be helpful. Besides, foxes eat rodents and should be a help in the garden. You might want to consider LIVE trapping and relocation though I don't know what the laws are where you live. This site is located in the US, but has some helpful info in understanding fox behavior. If you decide to trap, now is the best time before they have kits (pups). http://www.havahart.com/nuisance/_old_critters/fox.htm Good luck
Renardine is made to deter foxes. It is environmentally friendly but it don't 'alf whiff
What is it about foxes in the garden that you don't like? Just curios!
*curious
You can actually buy, from Chester Zoo at least, bags of Big-Cat-Poo for placing in gardens. Not only does it have fertilizing qualities, it's main purpose is to get rid of problematic domestic cats. Dominance/territory/big teeth etc.
invite the local hunt round for some practice , just to upset the local MP before the election !!
