waxed door

Hi,
We have waxed an expensive door and the colour is awful now it's finished. Does anyone have any advice to correct? Would buying another colour look right? It seems to me not being an expert, once waxed, it would be impossible to sand down and start again?

Meths removes wax from wood. Try it on the door edge 1st in case there's an adverse reaction with the wood.
