dog proof plants

I need to replace some small (max 12") evergreen shrubs in the garden of my rented property .... they have died as the dog does his "stuff" all over them. Can anyone suggest some small shrubs which can tolerate dog urine?? I have tried the products you can get which are meant to dilute the acidity of his urnine, but none of these are effective. Thanks.

I don't think there are any plants that are complety dog piddle proof echokilo .You could try lavender and rosemary ..the smell of those might just put him off piddling against them .Or you could sprinkle some of those " Get off my Garden " crystals round your shrubs and that might encourage him to go somewhere else preferably where it won't do so much damage .When we had Shaney he used to have a certain "piddling post " but if he did ,on the odd occasion ,lift his leg on my shrubs I just used to douse them with water to wash it away .
There is something you can get to put in their water to neutralise the acid in the urine ..the name of which escapes me .. Dog Rock ..or something like that .
sprinkle or spray amonia on and around the plants and the dog will stay away.

amonia is also good for the plants.
add some amonia, about 2 tablespoons dish detergent and some water in a spray bottle and spray the plants. bugs and animals will stay away. i use this as well.

Any chemist or hardware store. There's a shop in Colne, Lancashire called Consumers Choice that sells it.
