It depends whether it's a Spring or Summer variety.
Spring flowering - immediately after blooming, and the Summer bloomers in early Spring - both light pruning.
Varieties which flower in late Summer or early Autumn need harder pruning - in early Spring cut back to within a few inches of previous year's growth.
