Toilet often wont flush

Hi, We replaced an old fashioned high cistern toilet with a low flush one from B&Q. The installation was done professionally, but now the contents of the pan (I'm being polite) often just block the toilet and the water comes up to the rim when flushed. Solved by a quick proddle with a stick...uggg! I now wish we had our old toilet back which never failed to do the job.

An embarrassing one this eh! But does anyone know or can recommend a type of toilet that has a really reliable flush? Maybe the sort of thing fitted in public buildings? Thanks.

Is the cistern filling fully?

Is it a dual flush - where you use a small amount of water, or a full flush?

It certainly isn't working properly. Contact the person who installed it.
Can't help you with you're problem, but you aren't alone. A couple of years back I replaced my toilet and bath, and I've noticed this toilet cannot take what the old one took. I reckon it's to do with cutting the width of the outlet or something, and I do know that modern flushes don't use as much water as old ones, so lack that extra bit of power.

Hi Postdog,

That is the answer. The new toilet has a very small bend behind the trap, and simply cant take what the old one took (such nice expression you have!) I would like to find a toilet that can do the job properly. It could be very embarrassing if I have visitors to stay. Why oh why did I take the old one (over 50 yrs old) out?
