Permanent runkles in rug

Any idea how we can remove the almost permanent runkles in a large rug we keep under our dining room table & chairs to prevent leg damage on the fitted carpet? The plastic anti-slip netting we use hasn't worked and the runkles are now so big that we're in danger of tripping up on them. Thanks

You might try steam - I know it raises the pile if you've had something heavy on your carpet so leaving a dent. Try your steam iron if you havn't got a steam cleaner. It's just a thought!

attach a piece of carpet to the underside with carpet adhesive and it will be too thick to bunch up.

or spray the underside with laquer to stiffen it up so it'll be too stiff to runkle

failing that, could you nail the corners?
