Order of popularity:

Chrome: 41.6%

Internet Explorer: 41.3%

FireFox: 9.76%

Safari: 4.91%

Opera:1.89%

Konqueror: 0.01%

I find it hard to believe that FF has only 9.76% of the market share.

Statistics on browser usage often include mobile devices. With the clashing issues and the number of complaints I see I am surprised Chrome is top - who commissioned this survey.
Have you heard of DuckDuckgo?? My friend uses this.
I havent heard of that or Konqueror and I consider myself quite informed an computer stuff.

I use Duck Duck Go, the search engine, but I mainly use Chrome.

I used to be a big Firefox fan but it became very resource hungry and crashed a lot, despite me making sure it was updated and using minimum add ons.

The figures from different sources can still vary quite a lot though:
e.g. https://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php
and
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Further, it's worth remembering that any figures quoted are usually global ones. The most popular browser in Germany is Firefox. In most of Africa it's Opera and in India it's UC:

Avant

and Vivaldi
https://vivaldi.com/
also seem to be gaining in popularity among 'serious' web users.
Particularly surprised at IE given MS has an Edge now.
"given that Android and Chrome are both from Google, it's unsurprising that Chrome gets a lot of use"
Although Chrome is not the default browser on most Android devices. The Android browser is the default, which implies that a lot of people have made a conscious choice to download and run Chrome.
^^^ Possibly, TheChair, but it might just be that some statistical bases are amalgamating figures for Chrome and Android browsers together (and simply referring to 'Chrome') as well as amalgamating the figures for Internet Explorer and Edge (and simply referring to 'Internet Explorer). The absence of any reference to Edge in the stats used in the original question, together with the way that data is represented here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers#Summary_tables
suggest that might be the case.

Given the massive number of internet users in the relevant countries, I'm surprised that UC (which is the most popular browser in India and also popular in China), QQ (very popular for mobile devices in China) and Yandex's own web browser (from the firm behind Russia's most popular search engine) don't even figure in the stats.
Do you think any hacker would bother writing viruses/malware for Apple/Safari products, given their tiny market share?

To me "most popular device/browser" signifies what is most likely to be under attack.

The bottom line, for me is which browser(s) is(are) the most secure?
