Hi Everyone,

My house has a balcony/patio area outside the back door which wraps around the house, It is exactly 150mm below dpc. The previous tenants put in a printed concrete, which unfortunately is very difficult to clean, uneven and has been poorly painted. So I am looking at ways to cheaply overlay it which will make it easy to maintain. Any ideas?

decking ?
Question Author
I did think of decking, My one worry is getting the joists level on the current surface.
Sounds like it may need a screed of cement over the top before you do anything.
Decking would work well. It also means you can have it level with your door threshold. No more of that silly step as you walk out. ;o)

Easy enough to get joists level if you bed them on sand & cement. Put a polythene dampcourse under each joist as well (between the joist and the mortar.)

Bed one at the far end of the patio, and one at the opposite end. Pull a line (string) between them, and bed the others up to the line.

Or ............ fix a length of 100x50 timber to the house wall, just under the DPC. Hang 100x50 joists from this.
