Do I Need A New Window?

I have double glazing with locking handles to the windows.
Shen trying to unlock a window the base metal key broke, leaving a piece in the lock. I tried everything I could think of to prise it out but it was too far in. I even tried a fine drill, but in vain.
I wanted to remove the lock in its entirety but in thr locked position the handle covers one of the screws.
Any suggestions as to what I can/should do?
Even if I wanted to replace the window I can't see how I could remove the existing one!

Use a junior hacksaw to saw between the handle and the backplate. Then remove both screws and fit a new handle.

I would doubt that you need a whole new window. Maybe a locksmith to remove the lock, or other tradesman.
Use a junior hacksaw to saw between the handle and the backplate. Then remove both screws and fit a new handle.
Put a tiny amount of superglue on the end of the key you have and then put it in the lock as far as it will go, hopefully this will stick to the broken key.

It worked for me when my key snapped in my work locker
When I come across this problem I have found that the key is usually bent in the keyway where it snapped and difficult to remove.
The keys usually snap because they are so small and made of soft brass.
The best way to remove any broken key (bearing in mind I have a full set of Southord Lock Picks) is with a broken coping saw blade. Just poke the blade into the keyway (with the teeth pointing back towards you) and with a raking action draw the key towards you and out of the keyway.
Failing that BrightSpark has the other method.

PS ... don't tell anyone ..Trade Secret !
If that doesn't work
These locks are usually pretty simple. Have you tried holding the piece of key you have and still trying to turn the lock (maybe while wiggling the handle gently). The broken piece may hold in place and keep the pins in, while the other piece holds the remaining pins in. Otherwise it's a hacksaw to the bit of metal that covers the screw hole !
