Help! I want a fridge that fits under a worktop and is concealed behind a cupboard door. Do I buy ‘built in’ or ‘built under’?

No expert but isn't built under on show whereas built in is behind doors ?

I don't know. :o(
Looks like itis to do with height, whether you need a tall or worktop sized space/unit.
So under it is then.
John Lewis seem to describe them as 'integrated under counter', not sure that helps much though :-(

OG, I'm confused. Your link indicates 'built under' but Baldric's says //Integrated or built-in fridges sit behind kitchen cupboard doors so they become a part of the kitchen itself.//

That's what I want - so built-in?
I thought 'built in' implied they were behind doors too, but I now assume I was mistaken, since I came across the link I posted that showed under was under worktop height; and 'built in' could be anything but presumably kept for those which can't go under the worktop.

It is possible 'built in' does mean behind closed doors but 'built under' implies under a worktop, and you need something that does both.

But it's just may take on what I found. End of day maybe ask the supplier you are thinking of purchasing from ?
Whichever you decide upon assure there's sufficient ventilation since if the appliance is too tightly confined the compressor works harder and the fridge isn't as effective. This can lead to premature failure...

Each make (at least here in the U.S. includes a manufacturer's minimum air clearance specifications in the Owner's Manual.
You want 'built in' or 'integrated'.

I have a full size fridge/freezer thats 'built in' using two cupboard doors attached to the exterior fridge/freezer doors.

OG, I had intended to buy on-line, but perhaps I'll go to a shop just to make sure I get the right thing. Isn't it confusing!

Thanks Clanad, but this is a replacement, so ventilation's not a problem.

Thanks for your help everyone. x

"Built under" are fitted into a housing (kitchen unit) under a worktop....... as opposed to "free standing".

"Built-in" are usually fitted into a housing as well, but it would be a tall housing - usually above a "built-in" freezer...... no worktop.

Don't even get started on "integrated", Naomi, that can be either. ;o)
I should have added that both types are finished with a standard cupboard door in front of them. The "free standing" have no door.
