Our boiler was installed circa 1992. So I reckon a new one would more efficient.
But which make? Worcester. Warmflow etc.
Also which design? Condenser? Which I have been told don't last as long as a " Systems" boiler?

Does boiler need to be combi or do you have hot water cylinder?
Had perfectly good but old fashioned boiler. Landlord at the time decided on new combi boiler. Took out old one (From much loved airing cupboard), put new one in my larder. Result, no airing cupboard, no larder (tiny flat, not much storage) and a boiler which requires a plumber at least every 6 months.
October's Which? had a report..."Best and worst boiler brands". Best was Worcester, then Vaillant and Viessmann.....at the bottom were Baxi, Ideal and Vokera.
My Vaillant is a pain
...and Worcester currently offer 5-year warranties on their entire range.
Heaven help those people with the worst brands.
I have a Worcester combi in the airing cupboard - 11 years old and has only ever needed a replacement fan.
I used to work for a plumber and he always recommended Worcester.
Had my Vaillant 8 years now and only one problem quickly fixed in all that time
Worcester has the best reputation. I currently have a Glowworm but when I renew it'll be to a Worcester.

Proposed boiler will be oil fired and have no intention of getting rid of hot water cylinder - would miss it too much. Sorry for sounding stupid but what is a combined boiler? Only heard of condenser.
Combi gives you constant hot water.
A combination boiler is essentially a modern version of the old Ascot hot water provider that sat next to the sink, plus the capability of running the CH. So it has no DHW storage and heats it as required. The downside is that many combis cannot provide both in parallel.

A condensing boiler type is one that extracts more of the available heat from the gas or oil flue vapours.

Two different things.
A combi boiler both heats water and acts as the central heating boiler. There is no need for either a hot water cylinder or a storage tank in the loft as it heats water as and when you need it - there's no need to heat a full cylinder. Also, hot water to bath/shower and taps is at mains pressure.
Just had a Worcester oil boiler installed. Beware, they're much bigger than they were and not cheap. Almost £3k fitted.
My Vaillant combi is 15 years old, regularly serviced, no problems ever in all this time. Never let me down...yet....
