I am wondering if I could still get a mortgage if I am in my mid 40's?
My current house is paid off and I wanted to move to a better area with better neighbours.
Yes my thoughts are you have not told us if you have a job, what you earn, if you have any debts, if you have any savings, if you are married and so on.
How can anyone say if you can get a mortgage or not without that sort of information.
Yes I am employed and do earn an average salary. I have no outstanding debt. I am single and have savings. My current house worth around £190k and hoping to sell it and borrow another £80k to get a larger home and better people.
If I move I at least I have a chance of meeting better neighbours. My current area is full of snobs and very narrow minded people. The neighbour always wanted to me to move as I don't fit in with them. So let their dreams comes true and I move on.
According to a front page newspaper headline yesterday (which I only glanced at in the Co-op, so I've got no details) only 3% of house purchasers are under 40 years old at the moment. So that suggests that the majority of people currently getting mortgages are probably your age or older.
Age is no barrier to mortgage these days, most lenders will lend beyond retirement age these days. I took my most recent mortgage out when I was in my fifties - as it would go beyond retirement age, they wanted to see details of my proposed pension to make sure that I could still afford to pay it off, if it was still in place after I'd retired.
You will be able to get a mortgage while you are in your 40's, no problem as long as you can keep up the repayments. Better house doesn't necessarily mean better area or better neighbours.
