I have been given the seed head of some giant poppies, do I scatter them in the garden and at what time of year - would really appreciate some advice

There's an old saying
"plant poppies one year, and pull them up for seven"
Poppies became a dreadful weed in my garden, and I certainly was pulling them up for years.
.......but they are lovely.
The red ones growing in the fields over the road from me are lovely
But I am infested with the yellow ones ;-((
