With the hot weather we are inundated with flies - I have a red-top in the garden, citronella candles/sticks, and fans blowing and still the little brutes infiltrate the mesh door curtains and drive us mad - has anyone got a sure-fire way of keeping them out?

we spent a fortune on the sort of chain door curtains used by butchers and commercial premises. They are completely brilliant and its rare now to get a fly indoors even though the door stand open all day. ours are now 7 years old and look like new. http://www.nisbets.co.uk/chain-door-fly-screen/F129/ProductDetail.raction no I am not a shareholder in...

no I am not a shareholder in nisbetts or a chain door manufacturer.
Those are good but doesn't stop the blighters getting in through the windows :(
well you could hang short ones over the windows....
Dunno about keeping them out, but if you want them out once they get in...get a cat!

Mine's relentless in catching them and will practically climb up the walls to get them, so far it's been a 100% success rate for her.
These are seriously expensive - but lovely (as well as effective) :

lol Boo. Same as my Jack Russell - hell bent on catching anything and everything!
Since I got a decent electric ultra violet fly killer I rarely see a live fly. They must still get in but all I hear is the occasional pop.
