Hot water tap "stutters"

First, we have high water pressure - the cold tap on too far will easily splash and make a mess and I *think* we have cheap taps.

When we turn the hot water tap on first everything is fine (careful not too much to make a mess like the cold tap) and once the water starts to get hotter the tap cuts off instantly (other taps I've known to reduce water flow or turn off slowly). I know some metals contract & expand at different rates (eg. bimetalic strips in kettles) and I'm thinking our taps are cheap and have very cheap and fast expanding metals inside as to have the hot water flowing without problems the tap has to be on quite full.

If the tap isn't on enough the water "stutters" out of the tap making a banging noise on the pipes which is very loud, noisy and the splashing in the sink makes a mess.

Just wanting to do some research, what would be the easiest and what would be the cheapest options? Replacing the taps with more expensive ones? Not sure we can reduce the water flow.

Zeb....... you could well be right about the taps, but......... before you do anything else, I would try one of these...

That should take care of the cold supply. For the hot ....... what is your hot water system? Immersion, or combi?

Not sure, no idea how to tell. All I know is we've got a boiler in the kitchen (soon to be replaced due to age) and it has a thermostat control in the front room. Dials on the front include one to select a combination of HW and CH on/off, timer control where we can set two on/off times, switch "off/timer/programme control" and "low/med/high" and it's a Worcester Heatslave.
Yes, I would definitely try a pressure regulator :o)

Many thanks, will speak with the landlady about getting one installed and will also look at new taps (current ones are hideous)
Hot water 'stuttering' is possibly air getting into the system , also called 'water hammer'
I am just curious. How do you know if someone you meet is an ABer or how do these meetings occur?
