Light fitting.

I have a light fitting with three bayonet type bulbs. One bulb has gone. When I try to get the bulb out it won't budge. The whole fitment moves. The shade cannot come off until the bulb is removed. I have tried to hold the fitting but there is little room. Any ideas ? I will add I only have small hands.

How long have the bulbs been in place?

Is this a lamp or a ceiling fitting?

Ceiling fitting. 3 'Arms' 3 shades 3 bulbs. I changed one a month ago, no problems.

I think the safest thing to do would be to buy new light fittings.
You probably wont be able to get new bulbs for it anyway.

Make sure the light is off and try wearing rubber gloves to carefully turn it - they'll give a bit of extra grip.

Annie. I understand what you're saying but the whole fitting is turning ( the plastic holders) and the space is too small for my hand to hold the plastic fitting.

Ah!! - can you turn it as if you are tightening it and does it tighten again? Is there anything on the outside like a screw head or anything that you could grip?

...maybe even try pushing it in as hard as you can before trying to turn it......while wearing the rubber gloves :o)

Use pliers or pointed pliers to hold the fitting with one hand and turn the bulb with the other hand.

The bulb may break if it's difficult to remove.
Use pliers or pointed pliers to hold the fitting with one hand and turn the bulb with the other hand.
If you do that when it gets light TURN THE POWER OFF first.

If all else fails switch off the power to the light and using large pliers crack the outer screw on cover thing until you can break it off and get to the bulb then just replace the plastic cover thingy... if it is a basic type if it is an unusual one i.e part of the design make sure you can get a replacement bit first.

These bits get brittle with age anyway
