Washing machine keeps breaking

I am told it has a loose drum pulley! The belt keeps falling off whilst doing a wash and so it stops spinning. Can this be fixed or is it dead?

If that is what is causing it then probably it can be fixed. Has it started making more noise than it used to? Worn or damaged bearings could be a cause as well.

No, no more noise that I have noticed. Is this something I can fix myself or will I have to pay to get a man out? All I do it take the back off and put the bely back on, but within seconds it has come off again. It's not a loose belt- I' fairly sure of that.

Possibly the belt has stretched. Do you know if the belt tension can be adjusted?
Post the make and model etc and someone may be able to help.
You could also try a new belt.

1. If the main drum bearing has developed end-float .. which is unlikely .. the belt will come off (will usually be noisy on bearings tho, when drum rotating)
2. Drum pulley centre bolt thread stripped or loose .. allowing drum to move out of alignment with motor pulley. Check and tighten. If thread stripped and bolt will not tighten, it will need a thread repair/insert or a new drum (never seen this happen tho)
3. Drum pulley cracked or buckled (not unheard of) .. replace pulley if cost of part not prohibitive.
4. Motor attachment bolt loose, missing .. or belt very loose. Check and rectify.
Belt tension is by pre-load spring OR by adjustment arm/bolt (often 17mm)

Up to you to use this list to identify problem.

Am fairly sure it's not the belt, as its still very tight and hard to get on after its fallen off. Am sure its the loose drum pulley. Thanks for the advice- I'll have a look.

Try pulling the pulley about and see if there is any movement relative to the drum
