I have a 1 year old Vaillant ecoTEC plus open vent condensing boiler which I am very pleased with.

However, in the last month I've become aware of a noise when the boiler starts. It sounds like a deep groan lasting about three seconds. I don't think it is pipe vibration of any sort but can't be certain.

Any expert ideas, please ? The boiler was very expertly fitted.

Cheers.

Thanks, BS.
Sounds just like mine, it is the pump starting up.
Mine too, Eddie....four years old and been doing this for about three years.....like an old chap getting out of a chair....but no problems with the boiler......☺
The fan will be energised whenever there is any heat demand from the boiler – but the pump will only operate when there is a demand for central heating (providing that the boiler supplies Direct Hot Water and not via a storage tank).

Knowing this, you can determine whether it is likely to be the pump or the fan that is responsible for the noise.

Hymie, the system has a storage tank and the central heating is not set to come on at this time.

So what's the concensus, folks. Fan or pump ?

Thanks again.
