When plastering a ceiling

A small question. We want to get a builder in to plaster over an artex ceiling in our small flat.

We have seen one plasterer so far and he has insisted that we clear out our through lounge of furniture for this work. We have no where to put our furniture, let lone be able to move it, as we are elderly. I had thought our furniture could be covered over and then moved around from one side of the room to the other, as work progressed.

Does one really have to move furniture out of a room when plastering a ceiling?

Thanks for any advice.

As an exspread, I'd say yes if at all possible, when a ceiling is plastered it is done in one go not piece by piece like an artexing job, so it makes things rather awkward if there is furniture in the room, plus there is always the danger of spillage.
yes.its not like painting ,they have to put it on and then go back and fiddle with it to make it right.move the furniture.thank to mr sin.he is now back in his cage!
And it's a very very messy job.
Sinders is quite right. It's a two coat job, and it's time-dependent because of the "setting" properties of the plaster.

If the whole room isn't fitted out with a raised platform (nice, but not essential), then he'll work off a hop-up or a pair of steps. Either requires constant moving around to get at the whole surface.
I'm afraid there is no practicable shortcut.

Thanks for all your advice. I really wanted a nice plain ceiling, but I think it is just not possible to move our furniture out.
