Fungus in washing machine

My sister-in-law has just rung and said she has a sort of fungus on the rubber surround in her washing machine.She has tried using a damp cloth to remove it as well as bleach,but they haven't worked.
Has anybody got any ideas please ?

Stout rubber gloves and a strong solution of washing soda. Wipe around with that, may need repeated application.
Leave machine door and soap tray open when not in use.

Once the fungus has grown there is little that you can do about it(apart from not worry). If after using the washing machine you wipe the rubber seal dry (especially at the bottom) and then leave the door ajar for a few hours then the fungus won't grow.

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago. My problem was apparently due to always using the lowest temperature wash. This allowed a build up of gunge in the rubber door seal. Now, i occasionally wash towels on the highest temperature wash and the problem has not reoccurred

Doesn't everyone have fungus/mould round the door deal of their washing machine? Don't worry - just wipe occasionally to get the worst of it off.
